How to Foster Lasting Relationships
A story, quote and lesson about a band that’s been together for 30 years
All good things must come to an end. Right?
I don’t think so. Some things in life are temporary. Friendships fade, jobs shift, and people move on. But every now and then, you find something—or someone—that stands the test of time.
For example, in the world of music, Coldplay is one of those rare constants. Since their formation in 1997, the band has remained intact with the same four members: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion. No rotating musicians, no dramatic breakups, no bitter feuds over money or power. Just four guys touring the world and playing food music.

The music industry is notorious for tearing bands apart. Creative differences, clashing egos, financial disputes—it’s almost a given that any successful band will eventually fracture. The Beatles, Oasis, Pink Floyd—each fell victim to some level of internal strife.
Coldplay, however, avoided this fate. Not because they never faced challenges, but because they understood something deeper: each member brought something irreplaceable to the group. Their differences weren’t weaknesses—they were strengths.
Chris Martin may be the face of Coldplay, but without Jonny’s soaring guitar, Guy’s steady bass, and Will’s powerful drumming, the magic wouldn’t be the same. They recognized this early on and made a pact: no one is bigger than the band.
“Of course there’s hard times that you have to work through but we’ve propped each other up”
- Guy Berryman, Coldplay’s bassist on their relationship.
In life, people will come and go. Some will stay for a moment, others for years. But deep down, we all know who we can truly count on—the ones who show up when things get tough, who celebrate our wins without jealousy, and who make life more meaningful just by being there.
Coldplay’s story is a reminder that lasting relationships require effort, self-awareness, and a shared vision. If we let pride, competition, or ego take over, we risk losing the people who make our journey worthwhile.
So now I ask you:
Who are the people in your life that truly matter? What are you doing to keep them close?
Familys is everything.
My family and my boyfriend
Thanks for sharing it made me think about the people that I can really count on and that I know are worth it
